Winner of his sister’s previous round, Serena Williams qualified for the quarter-finals of the US Open by eliminating Estonian Kaia Kanepi (6-0, 4-6, 6-3).

Serena Williams lost her first set of the fortnight but advanced to the quarter-finals of the US Open at the expense of Estonian Kaia Kanepi (44′) in three sets (6-0, 4-6, 6-3) on Sunday in New York.

The youngest of the Williams sisters (36) will challenge the world’s N. 8, The Czech Karolina Pliskova, for a spot in the Final Four.

Against World No. 1 loser Simona Halep in the first round, Serena sent the first set in 18 minutes by signing fourteen winning points, against only one for Kanepi, and by winning 100% of the points behind her first service (27% for her opponent).

The Estonian, a quarterfinalist at Flushing Meadows a year ago, then came to her senses and equalized to a round everywhere. But the six-time winner of the US Open, who has returned to tutu parme, has set an accelerator, particularly at the service (18 aces in total), to win in just over 1h30 min.

Physically, no sign of any discomfort at her twisted ankle in the previous turn against her older sister Venus.

A year after giving birth to his daughter Olympia, Serena, 26th in the world but head of the N. 17 series, is in search in New York of a 24th crown in Grand Slam which would allow him to equal the absolute record of Margaret Court.

Since returning to the circuit in early March, Serena has experienced high – finals at Wimbledon – and the driest down – defeat of her career, 6-1, 6-0, against the British Johanna Konta in early August at San José and forfeited before the round of 16 at Roland-Garros.
