The French medallists of these Tokyo Games won not only a charm and a share of glory. A glance at the gratifications of the Blues, and of our more or less distant neighbors.

Gold prices rose in France. In 2016, for the Rio Games, an Olympic title brought a bonus of 50,000 euros on the individual scale ; the gold medal will have been quoted at 65,000 euros on the Tokyo side for Les Bleus. Silver at 25,000 euros and bronze at 15,000 euros. The 33 podiums thus ensured by the tricolor delegation in Japan were justly rewarded.

However, our Spanish and Italian neighbours were even more generously rewarded. The Olympic title for the Iberians was synonymous with bonuses of 94,000 euros ; and almost double for the Transalpines, thanked to the tune of 180,000 euros for the gold medals, 90,000 euros for the silver athletes and 60,000 euros for the bronzed.

One million in Singapore, nothing in Britain

The most beautiful Olympic bonus, as in Rio, was promised by Singapore, with a million local dollars allocated to the possible champions-prize pool that swimmer Joseph Schooling had managed to win in the 100m butterfly in 2016. No successor in Tokyo. Note that the many British medalists, like their Swedish counterparts, did not receive any bonuses.
