Tottenham was hot on the end but holds his victory. Thanks to Harry Kane on penalty to Erik Lamela, the Spurs won the field in Brighton on Saturday (1-2) as part of the 6th day. In the standings, they go up to fifth place while Brighton is 14th.

After conceding three losses in a row, a UFO-like stat for the Spurs in the Mauricio Pochettino era, Tottenham had to get his act together this Saturday against Brighton, who was still looking for success since his prestigious victory over Manchester United in mid-August at Amex Stadium. And if the players of Chris Hughton might have deserved to hang the Londoners, they saw the most realistic team win (1-2). The Spurs are breathing a little better this Saturday night.

The teammates of Harry Kane will have evolved almost a whole half in apnea, against Seagulls who felt like growing wings after a first period spent defending very low. Faced with a quasi-type formation lined up by Pochettino, except for the presence of Paulo Gazzaniga in the cages – his second Premier League match only –the locals wanted to cement and enjoy the speed of Anthony Knockaert and Solly March against. But they will have just suffered, without however conceding any hot opportunity against Spurs not very inspired, and perhaps still marked by their defeat conceded this week in the champions League against Inter (2-1).

Lamela, the great return ?

Tottenham did end up smiling at Glenn Murray’s lack of hand on the surface, which gave them a penalty. Harry Kane did not fail to score his 143rd goal in the Spurs jersey (1-0, 42′). But the British international couldn’t do anything about Brighton’s wild second period comeback.

Only Christian Eriksen came to worry Mathew Ryan (53′), while on the other side, Knockaert and company had a hell of a bouillon taken from the Londoners (50th, 61st, 63rd, 65th). But paradoxically, it was the Frenchman who wasted all his hopes at the 66th minute, showing himself too greedy after being perfectly served by Beral Kayal in the surface.

A fatal error, and that was followed by the goal of Tottenham’s break by Erik Lamela, who always brings something since the beginning of the season, as a substitute or starting goalkeeper (see stat). On a superb collective action of his team, the Argentinean concluded with a left foot recovery (2-0, 76′). After scoring twice in the previous two games, Brighton thought of the exploit after the late-cut score from Knockaert (2-1, 90 ‘ +3). But the dice were thrown, and Tottenham raised the bar before a series of 3 matches in 10 days, including this gala match against FC Barcelona in the champions League.
